Inside Passage to Alaska

20 - 27 September 2009

Yes, I've been quite remiss in not sending a trip report; I have no valid excuse.

We sailed on the m/s Statendam from 20 - 27Sep; it was the ship's last cruise of the season.
We had clear skies and great sun as we departed Vancouver but were otherwise unfortunate weather-wise as low cloud, showers, heavy rain, and cool temps prevailed for much of the week. I understand that Alaska had had cool wet conditions for much of the season. We did luck into clearing conditions for a good part of the day on the White Pass rail excursion, in Ketchican, and for the Margarie Glacier. A major disappointment was that much of the Inland Passage was traversed at night. Notwithstanding all that, we did thoroughly enjoy the cruise and would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of 'cruising'.

As an aside, apparently the Statendam will be moored at Canada Place to house the security personnel for the 2010 Olympics.
